Defamed by Umno blogger, Surendran lodges police report

SHAH ALAM, 5 June: Today, the Member of Parliament for Padang Serai, N Surendran, made a police report at the Dang Wangi Police District Headquarters following some false statements on Twitter linking him to the death of a police officer in Perak in May.

Through his Twitter, Surendran informed that the police report against the pro-Umno blogger, known as Sejarah Melayu, was done at about 11am today.

Accompanying him was his personal lawyer, Eric Paulsen and the PKR Communications Director, Fahmi Fadzil.

“For too long pro-BN bloggers have defamed opposition leaders with impunity.

“I aim to track these scoundrels down and make them answer for their crimes,” said Surendran on Twitter.

Among the defamatory tweets include ‘the murdered police certainly did not follow proper SOP while on duty’ and ‘almost every day police officers are murdered in India, but in Malaysia when a police officer is murdered, it is a big issue’.

The Member of Parliament for Padang Serai will also take legal action against the bloggers for their outrageous actions.

He said that because of the tweets, he is considered to be insensitive towards the issue involving the death of the police officer.

“I will identify you and drag you to court, like I did Papagomo,” he added.

On May 26, a police officer was reportedly killed, while his friend was seriously injured, after being hit by a car carrying a group of robbers at Mile 10 towards Alor Pongsu.

In the incident, which happened about 1pm, the victim, Lance Corporal Mohd Azuan Abdullah, 25, died at the scene, while his unidentified friend was badly injured.
