Recommendations to raise the poverty line to RM1,500 are fair

SHAH ALAM, 23 Mar: The recommendation by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, asking the Federal Government to raise the poverty line to at least RM1,500 a month is considered fair and timely.

The Sekinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim, said that the recommendation is appropriate given the situation that the people go through life with today’s high costs.

“In this difficult economic period, the high cost of living coupled with the goods and services tax (GST) which will be implemented, the people are increasingly pressured.

“In addition to living in the city with everything such as tolls, parking and other payables. Those facing hardships are categorised as the urban poor,” he said.

Suee Lim said that the poverty line of RM900 set by the Federal Government is no longer relevant because the people are charged with various payments that burden them.
