Water agreement: SUK has started negotiations, CM-Minister continues next week

KLANG, 29 Mar: The restructuring of the Selangor water industry will be back on track if the negotiations between the Selangor Government and the Federal Government continues smoothly.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the official level negotiations have begun last Monday before the higher level is held.

“State government officers, including the State Government Secretary (SUK), have started discussions with the Ministry last Monday.

“I expect my meeting with the Minister next week when the Assembly session behind on Monday, but it is as promised by the Minister; to return to the terms of the original agreement.

“If it is implemented, the state government is committed to conclude the agreement as soon as possible to ensure that this industry is perfect and can be integrated,” said Mohamed Azmin.

He said this during a press conference at the Launching Ceremony of the Selangorku Housing Registration in Bandar Parklands.

Prior to this, the Selangor government, under the administration of the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, finalised the agreement for the acquisition of Selangor’s water industry when he signed the agreement with the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili in 2014.

However, the master agreement expired by itself following the failure of the Federal Government to respect the principles and spirit of the agreement, including to recognise the sovereignty of the land and water assets of Selangor.
