Exco: Art page not a political pamphlet

PETALING JAYA, 10 Apr: The assumption that art and cultural content are just empty pages needs to be changed, said the Exco for Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari.

He said that pages for short stories, poems and articles in the official Selangor government’s newspaper are not political pamphlets.

“That is why the new administration is opening two art sections so that the people can see Selangor Kini as a newspaper.

“We want quality development and not just a building corner, but development that is filled with spirit through art and culture,” he said.

He said this during the launch of the Jelajah Budaya (Cultural Tour) book by the Chairman of Seniman Paksi Rakyat (PAKSI), Dinsman, at Rumah Gerak Budaya last night.

“I b ought 56 books to be distributed to all 56 Assemblymen in Selangor for them to personally read and evaluate,” he said.

Yesterday, PAKSI submitted a memorandum to all Selangor Assemblymen to uphold cultural art in Selangor, thus serving as an example to other states.

This was following the statement by the Paya Jaras Assemblyman, Khairuddin Othman, who proposed for the art section in Selangor Kini to be replaced during the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session on April 2.
