SHAH ALAM, 7 May: The Immigration Department should address the influx of foreign nationals, which is becoming increasingly serious not only in Selangor but across the country because some of them are capable of becoming business owners.
The Batu Tiga Assemblyman, Rodziah Ismail, said that special laws should be enforced, whether at the federal level or at local authorities, so that locals who lease business licences to foreign nationals will be acted against.
She said that the safety of the local people must be taken into account because the matter is still considered a small matter despite being raised often and the situation is becoming more widespread.
“I think that this issue has been often raised during meetings with the police and at the Selangor State Assembly.
“We do not prevent the entry of foreign nationals, but we are worried that this influx can lead to other problems such as hygiene, safety and taking over the role of locals, for example in the industrial sector.
“Vacancies in this sector should be filled by the low-income group,” she told Selangor Kini.
Over the past few years, foreigners are seen as capable of managing businesses seriously through licence lease or rental from local residents.
The situation has caused a lot of unhappiness among local traders and the general public.
Previously, some visitors at a wet market and an open market in Taman Seri Muda expressed their feelings when 99 percent of traders and visitors to the location were foreign nationals.
Citing Sinar Harian, most of the foreigners, especially Bangladeshis, opened businesses selling chicken, vegetables and also operated food and clothing premises.
