SHAH ALAM, 19 FEB: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) requested the contractor involved in the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) near the IOI Mall in Puchong to build a new water drainage to channel water into the Klang river.
MPSJ President, Datuk Asmawi Kasbi said that the contractor, Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) was also asked to hasten the process of widening drains to accommodate the increased volumes of rainwater.
He said that the cause of the flash floods that occurred last night was likely due to heavy rains and increased water capacity that passes through the water channels at the Damansara Puchong Expressway (LDP) causing it to overflow.
He also did not rule out the possibility that the failure of one of the channels to function properly and investigation are being carried out with the LDP concession company, Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (LITRAK).
“We have already asked the LRT contractor, MRCB, to speed up the waterway and it will take approximately a month and a half to be completed and it is hoped that flooding like yesterday will not recur,” he said.
A technical meeting related to the flash floods also was held by MPSJ together with Litrak and MRCB this evening.
According to Asmawi, the real cause of the flood will be announced after all investigations and a thorough discussion is conducted.
“Only from extensive reviews we will be able to identify the cause and many have said that the LRT construction project is the cause…we will not answer yes or not as long as the overall report is not available,” he added.
Meanwhile, the flash flood which occurred around 4pm yesterday caused traffic congestion on both directions, to Sunway and Subang Jaya and to Puchong Perdana.
