50 Percent Reduction On Assessment Tax For The Disabled

SHAH ALAM, 20 Mar: The State Government has agreed to reduce the assessment tax rate by 50 percent for Persons With Disabilities (PWD) who own homes throughout the state of Selangor and this discount is in effect immediately.

This was revealed by Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim after chairing the Exco Meeting at the State Secretariat Building here.

Abdul Khalid informed that the assessment tax reduction was to help ease the financial burden of PWDs who have to deal with the cost of living which is continuously increasing in Selangor, especially in urban areas.

“It is also the recognise the contributions of PWDs in economic and social developments in Selangor,” he said.

However, he said, the reduction only applies to PWDs who are inhabiting the houses they own. If the house is rented to another party, they are not entitled to the reduction.

“The State Government is confident that giving both of these discounts will not affect the income of local authorities (PBT) because we have managed to save over RM80 million over the last year from the termination of the Alam Flora service apart from open tender practises, and also the widespread implementation of the Value-for-money concept.

“We have also provided more than 10,000 land grants to the people of Selangor through the Private Residential Ownership Scheme which only charges a premium of RM1,000,” he said.

He added that the reduction is the second given by the State Government after the 25 percent discount in assessment tax for low-cost flat owners with the condition that they stay in the house.
