KUALA LUMPUR, July 10: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) needs to re-investigate claims of distributing via lucky draw vouchers by stakeholders in Penang during the 13th General Election (GE-13).
MP for Bayan Baru, Sim Tze Tzin said that the authorities should not stop investigations because the said incident really happened and evidence as well as reports on it has been made by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
“The statement by the Penang MACC Director, M Samaraju, that investigations into the case have been terminated because there has been no foul play, cannot be accepted.
“We regret this matter and assume that the MACC has failed in carrying out their duties. These allegations really did happen when a dinner was held in certain areas and voters were given vouchers to be exchanged when the Umno-BN candidate contesting wins in the election,” he claimed in a press conference here at Parliament.
Sim explained that a total of sever PR leaders have filed reports on the matter to the police and the MACC.
He said that only the police gave feedback saying that the case has nothing to do with he authorities but the MACC.
He stressed that the voucher exchange happened after the election on the 10, 11 and 12 May in certain areas with the public lining up to receive it.
“This clearly happened; trying to bribe to buy votes. I hope that the MACC will reopen the investigation into this case and we are ready to cooperate,” he said.
