KUALA LUMPUR, July 16: Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim decided to sue the Berita Harian (BH) newspaper following a defamation report that stated that he received a huge sum of foreign funds from Turkey, the United States and the Philippines to be used during the Black505 assembly.

The newspaper report dated June 29 cited a special interview featuring the former Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, with the Merdeka On-line in Jakarta, Indonesia news portal.

According to Anwar, he was contacted by Jusuf through phone and said that he did not think that his statement would be manipulated this way.

“The writing is not true, it did not come from me, I oppose it,” said Anwar when reading Jusuf’s tect message at the House of Representatives this morning.

Anwar also urged the Deputy Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jafaar to explain why the ministry is taking such a long time to take action on this issue.

The Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament added that Jusuf sent four letters in protest to the BH Chief Executive Officer, the BH Chief Editor and the BH Group Chief Editor and to the New Straits Times.

“However, so far no corrections or clarification has been done,” he said.

Thus, Anwar said that his lawyer and Jusuf will take legal action against BH for defaming the two of them.
