SHAH ALAM, 14 Oct: The Selangor Economic Action Council (SEAC) called the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor (PERANGSANG) to attend a meeting tomorrow.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, through Twitter, said that SEAC will examine the feedback from both companies that have minority stakes in the Damansara-Punching Expressway (LDP) and the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS).
“State government policies clearly oppose any increase in the toll, which is burdening the people,” wrote Mohamed Azmin.
Starting tomorrow, 11 highways around the Klang Valley will operate with the new toll rate, seeing an increase of up to RM1.10.
It involves the Kuala Lumpur Karak Expressway (KLK), the Maju Expreway (MEX), the Kajang-Silk Expressway, the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), the Stormwater Management And Road Tunnel Company (SMART).
In addition, the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR), the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS), the Damansara Puchong Expressway (LDP), the Western KL Traffic Dispersial System Expressway (SPRINT) and the Cheras-Kajang Expressway (GRAND SAGA).
The announcement received negative responses from most motorists who described it as burdening the people.
The move to increase the toll rate is clearly contrary to the Barisan Nasional Manifesto in the 13th General Election.
The manifesto stated that there will be a gradual reduction in toll rates in the next five years.
