PETALING JAYA, 28 Jan: A total of RM91.6 million has been allocated by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in the 2015 budget for quality maintenance of infrastructure and public amenities for the benefit of residents in the area.
The acting mayor of the city of Petaling Jaya, Puasa Md Taib, said that particular focus given to the culture of maintenance in the 2015 Budget can be seen when it became the main direction that focuses on solving the drainage and irrigation systems.
He said that RM11.08 million has been allocated to upgrade drains to overcome the problem of flooding, while RM20.48 million is for maintaining drainage and irrigation, including public amenities, while RM1.29 million is for appointing consultants to prepare the Irrigation System Master Plan.
“MBPJ’s ability can not only be seen in the provision of infrastructure, but regular and efficient maintenance services.
“It aims to ensure that residents enjoy comfortable facilities that are safe from injury or accidents when using the infrastructure provided,” he said when chairing the Full MBPJ Meeting today.
Puasa said that MBPJ has also allocated RM11.85 million to maintain street lights, street furniture, paving roads, decorative lighting and traffic lights, and RM24.26 million for public amenities and businesses.
Meanwhile, maintenance of offices and buildings also received an allocation of RM7.11 million and RM15.53 million goes to landscape maintenance, the development of the green corridor, the development of the Kelana Jaya Community Lake Park and the Rimba Riang Park.
“MBPJ will also ensure that the appointed contractors carry out maintenance work ethically, with quality and perfectly.
“Hopefully, with the increase in maintenance culture, MBPJ will manage to reach its goal of providing better public facilities and a conducive environment that is comfortable and clean,” he said.
