SHAH ALAM, JUL 22: Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) did not issue any form of directive to any mosques or suraus in the state to hold hajat prayers for the cancellation of Selena Gomez’s concert.
JAIS Director Dato’ Haris Kassim admitted that the general public had made several appeals demanding the cancellation of the sensational singer’s concert, which is scheduled to be held at Melawati Indoor Stadium on July 25.
However, he said this is beyond JAIS’s authority as it falls under the local authority’s jurisdiction.
“I would like to emphasise that any cancellation of the ‘Selena Gomez Concert’ is subject to the local authority’s jurisdiction and is outside JAIS’s jurisdiction.
“We do not deny JAIS has received several appeals from the general public to cancel the concert, and these have been forwarded to the local authority concerned,” he stated.
