Dam Capacity Increases, Rationing Continues Until a Satisfactory Level

SHAH ALAM, 19 Mar: Although the capacity of water in some dams in Selangor have begun to to improve, the water rationing plan, which is being implemented, will be continued until it reaches a satisfactory level.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the State Government is constantly monitoring the water levels in all dams every week before deciding on the next move.

“While some dams have started to reach over 65 percent, we plan to continue the operation (water rationing) for one more week to ensure the change of the monsoons season.

“After that, we will decide again whether to continue the water rationing plan or not,” he said in a press conference as soon as he finished chairing the Selangor State Government Executive Council Meeting here at the SUK Building.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government has also found that the water rationing plan which is being implemented at this time has had a positive impact on the behaviour of some consumers who previously waste water.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Consumer Affairs and Environment, Elizabeth Wong, said that at this time, the water capacity in most dams is at satisfactory levels.

“There has been much rainfall and this is good to help increase water levels at dams such as the Hulu Langat Dam, the Semenyih Dam and the Ampang Dam. However, despite the rain, the Sungai Selangor Dam has still not reached a satisfactory level, with only an increase by 5 millimetres.” he said.
