LRT 3 Amendment: Prasarana should hold immediate discussion

DAMANSARA UTAMA, 23 Apr: The Damansara Utama Assemblyman, Yeo Bee Yin, asked Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) to discuss the amendments of the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT 3) line amendments because one of the stations that will be built involves her area.

She said that the traffic line shows that the Damansara Utama Station will be built on the Sungai Kayu Ara reserves and will cause congestion in both these areas.

“Prasarana needs to think about solutions for the traffic and the inclusion of public buses. The station is opposite Damansara Utama and is separated by a river.

“The question is how would users head there due to the separation of the river? Because Jalan 5, Sungai Ara, which is the site construction site of the LRT, is very small because it is a village and unfriendly to traffic.

“Concerns arise also because it involves two roads as access to the construction site of the railway, which is Jalan 21.42 and Jalan 21/13.

“Not only are they using the road, but other problems are expected to trouble residents,” she said during a press conference today.

Bee Yin said that the construction at the river reserve can trigger the residents’ anxiety, especially flood problems and water collection areas in the future.

The changes of the construction of the Damansara Utama station was known through the Environmental Impact Report Assessment that was downloaded online in February.

She said that the original proposal of the station’s construction would begin at the One Utama Station heading to Centre Point, however the Centre Point station was replaced with the Damansara Utama station.

“I do not know whether the plans have been finalised or not. I cannot answer whether the line is Prasarana’s final decision.

“Prasarana needs to hold talks with us and other stakeholders,” she said.

LRT 3 which has 25 stops is expected to receive 70,000 commuters in 2020 due to developments in the Klang Valley.
