Waytha’s Resignation a Blow to Najib

SHAH ALAM, 10 Feb: The resignation of P Waytha Moorthy as a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, effective today, is a strong blow to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, especially when the leadership of the Prime Minister is being disputed by many parties.

Blogger, Shahbudin Husin, said that the withdrawal of the Hindraf leader from the Cabinet means that the support previously given to the Barisan Nasional (BN) has been withdrawn.

He said that the ‘bond of love’ which has been broken between the government and Hindraf will witness a part of the total 10 percent of Indian voters will not be in favour of BN during the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.

“Resigning in an uncertain political climate while claiming that Najib and Putrajaya are promise breakers is more painful and bitter compared to the slap on the face.

“If Teresa Kok is worried that the challenge to slap her will be welcomed by any short-sighted party, the blow done by Hindraf is more painful to Najib,” said the writer of political books in his blog.

He said that with an open attack against Najib from various parties, including Umno itself, BN’s position is seen as not only difficult in Kajang, but its power to remain as the government in the next election will be certainly challenging.

Earlier, in a statement, Waytha informed that he will be resigning as a Cabinet minister and a Senator on 10 February.

He made the decision to resign because he claimed that BN did not fulfil any of its promises to the Indian community despite winning in the 13th General Election.
