“We need to think of a strategic solution for the long term involving the need for food, medicine and shelter.

“It is the right time for all community organisations to work together with ASEAN countries in humanitarian missions to rescue Rohingya Muslims who are oppressed,” he said.

Mohamed Azmin said that Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chairman, should immediately convene a meeting with the ASEAN Foreign Minister (AFMM) to discuss the issue.

“Among the critical issues is resettlement, sending back and security that should be given priority.

“Undoubtedly, Malaysia and Indonesia will bear the brunt of refugee camps. Brunei and Singapore should also play an important role towards long-term solutions,” he said.

At the same time, Mohamed Azmin also criticised the decision by the Egyptian judiciary against its President, Mohamed Morsi, who was sentenced to death.

“The decision is not fair and failed attempts include violating each process and rule of evidence. It is akin to destroying the democratic and justice system since the coup took place by the military and invisible hands in the region,” he said.
