Meanwhile, RM12 million is for the initial funding for those who receive loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

“We have Unisel and KUIS, however we see many of our children, especially in rural areas and villages, have good potential to continue their studies.

“But the cost of higher education caused many of them to drop out,” he said during the Selangor Education Assistance Distribution 2015 for the Gombak level today.

He said that as stated in the Selangor Budget 2015, education plays a fundamental role in the state government’s development this year.

“We believe that education is a long-term investment to ensure that our children receive knowledge, but it is our responsibility to provide quality education.

“It should start at the pre-school, primary, and secondary school levels, and we will endeavour to help children in Selangor polish their potential,” he said.

Mohamed Azmin said that there are various programmes and schemes connected to education, including the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (Tawas), the Selangor Kindergarten Assistance Scheme (Tunas), the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) and the Gift for Children Entering Universities.

During the event, he presented that state government’s contribution of RM1.045 million to 49 People’s Religious Schools (SAR), Chinese Vernacular Schools, and Tamil Vernacular Schools.
