CM reprimands Assemblyman for not fulfilling intent of forming a DNS committee

SHAH ALAM, 8 Apr: The attitude of some Assemblymen in submitting proposals and specific problems during the presentation of the statement session was reprimanded by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He said that during the counterargument, the move did not meet the intent of the formation of the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) standing committee.

“We urge all parties to provide recommendations at the standing committee level and then present views or recommendations at the DNS session.

“But it seems like Assemblymen are not focusing on it and are discussing at length about specifics.

“It takes a long time and makes it difficult for the government to retaliate,” he said.

Prior to this, Datuk Teng Chang Khim (DAP-Sungai Pinang) also gave the same warning to Yeo Bee Yin (DAP-Damansara Utama) during the debate on the motion related to the Freedom of Information Enactment.

“The specific proposal should have been brought up during the SELCAT committee session, not here,” he said until Bee Yin stopped arguing.

However, the DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that it is not wrong for Assemblymen to argue as long as the issue is of public interest.

“Not all Assemblymen are experienced in the DNS like Sekinchan and Sungai Pinang, let alone when there is not enough time during policy debates.

“I have been in their position looking for a medium to convey and debate on issues which I feel were important,” she said during a press conference at the DNS lobby during the session’s break.
