RM394,946 spent for 64 cloud seeding operations

SHAH ALAM, 6 Apr: A total of RM394,946 has been spent by the Selangor government to finance the cost of 64 cloud seeding operations from February 21 to April 1.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the move was taken to ensure that the supply of raw water at state catchment areas are always sufficient.

“Cloud seeding was done every day since February 21, 2015, and starting from February 24, we increased it to twice a day.

“The water level at the Sungai Selangor dam is still good at 68.31 percent, far exceeding the storage control of 45 percent and 30 percent critical.

“Secondly, rain is still falling at catchment areas this week,” said Zaidy when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Zaidy added that apart from rainfall, the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System Project (Horas) pond is still able to supply up to 800 million litres of water a day (MLD) to Sungai Selangor.

“Although the water level is good compared to last year, I advise consumers to be prudent at all times,” added Zaidy.
