Selangor is committed to helping the people weather the economic slowdown in 2015

SHAH ALAM, 9 Jan: The people of Selangor have been reminded to brace themselves for cost of living pressures due to the 2015 economy which is expected to experience a slowdown and the implementation of the goods and services tax in April.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that among the measures that can be taken includes being thrifty even though the state government has a plan to help the people face economic challenges following the depreciation of the ringgit.

“The Selangor government is committed to improving the income of farmers, the migrant programme to bridge the income gap between the rich and the poor, giving bonuses to state public servants and to maintain the free water programme.

“Despite receiving government help, it would be best to perform austerity under our own control,” he told Selangor Kini.

Zaidy also advised the people of Selangor to travel within the state only to minimise the outflow of funds and help local entrepreneurs.

“In conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2015, many foreign tourists are expected to visit the state, but we do not realise the many more interesting places that have not yet been visited.

“So, if you want to go on vacation, better travel within Selangor because it can help improve the economy of the local community and the state,” he said.

Zaidy also advised the people of Selangor who are eligible to participate in the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) scheme provided by the state government to do so to help improve their lives.
