SHAH ALAM, 15 Oct: The Selangor government has been recommended to ensure that the contractors appointed to repair the roads in the state use quality materials.
Although the use of quality materials would cause the cost to repair higher, but it would be able to assure the durability of the roads for longer compared to the use on lower quality and cheaper materials.
Businesswoman Yusfadlisha Mohd Yusop, 34, said that the state government should also check on the cause of repeated damaged even though the road in a location has been repaired before paving works are being carried out.
“There are spots in Shah Alam where when it is repaired of patched, it would be damaged again and because of that, the state government must take the initiative to check the soil condition, location, landform and irrigation so that once it is done, it is complete. No need for patching a second or third time.
“Roads should be patched with quality materials because although the cost is higher, but it can last longer, then it is worth it for the long term,” said Yisfadlisha in a survey carried out by Selangor Kini today.
She also suggested for the local authorities in Selangor to act quickly in patching large potholes due to heavy rain because it is dangerous for motorcyclists.
Yusfadlisha also recommended for Exco members, Assemblymen and Councillors to use ordinary roads rather than expressways to make it easier for them to identify the location of damaged roads.
Among the roads that require attention include the road near the housing project around Section 13, Shah Alam, which is believed to the entry and exit path for lorries, and around Alam Megah, Klang.
Executive accountant, Halisa Harun, 43, said that the local authorities in Selangor need to monitor roads near construction sites because there are often damages caused to overloaded lorries and mud erosion from the area involved.
“The condition of roads in Shah Alam, especially the entry and exit path for lorries in Section 13 is worsening with potholes, a lack of a large drain, water flowing on the road.
“Apart from that, industrial areas are also the same. The state government should repaint the road lines which have faded because it is not clear and may invite danger to drivers at night,” she said.
A graduate from the Management Science University (MSU), Muaz Roslan, 22, is of the opinion that even though the condition of the roads in Shah Alam can be considered satisfactory in general, there are still damages that need to be repaired.
“In Shah Alam, it is satisfactory in general. There are many routes that I often use that have potholes and have been patched, but there are potholes still.
“I do not know if it is because work was not done. Whatever it is, it troubles motorists, especially motorcyclists,” he said.
