Fake SMS: Palace, CM can lodge police report

SHAH ALAM, 9 July: Action can be taken against irresponsible parties who created the false report about the Chief Minister of Selangor resigning if the parties involved make a police report and a report to the Malaysian Communications and Media Communication.

The Deputy Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the report can be made by parties implicated in the report; the Chief Minister, the Selangor Palace and the BERNAMA news agency.

“Action can be taken against the irresponsible parties who created and forwarded the short messaging service (SMS) text that links the palace,” said Nik Nazmi when contacted by Selangor Kini.

Nik Nazmi also urged the people to not easily believe any rumours being spread through social networking sites and SMS.

“The public have to obtain it only from official sources, apart from first checking its authenticity,” he said.

Earlier, a false report on Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s resignation as Chief Minister was widely spread on social networking sites.

The false news allegedly issued by BERNAMA linked the Selangor Palace and after that, Abdul Khalid came forward to explain that he will not resign.
