KLANG, 5 June: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) expects to increase revenue from morning and night market permit collection by RM400,000; bringing the total to about RM3.4 million.
The MPK President, Datuk Mohammad Yacob, said that they aim to increase to this amount based on convincing developments and previous collection over the years.
“The total collection for morning and night market permits earned annually is approximately RM3 million.
“It is expected that the increase in revenue from the collection of morning and night market permits this year will increase by RM400,000,” he said in a statement to Selangor Kini.
Mohammad said that the payment rate for both markets is RM4 per space for a day and involves three main departments, namely the Department of Licensing and Hawking, the Enforcement Department and the Environmental Services Department.
He said that monitoring and enforcement control at all morning and night markets are done cohesively, beginning January, at operating times starting from three in the evening until the cleaning of the night and morning market sites is completed.
“Officers from the Department of Licensing and enforcement personnel will be posted at night markets for traffic control and enforcement will be carried out on unlicensed and foreign traders.
Metal barricades and cones will be placed at the boundaries of night markets and also areas where business is prohibited to ensure there is no overflow of traders outside their spaces.
He said that enforcement action taken is a compound and confiscation under the Hawker By-Laws (MPK) 2007. As of May, 593 operations have been performed at all night market sites.
“The clean-up work is done internally by MPK or through appointed contractors from 10pm until it is completed,” he said.
He said that MPK always has good cooperation with council members in ensuring that all undertakings with regards to the acquisition of market site operations is carried out smoothly and systematically.
Elaborating, he said that surveys and studies will be carried out at all morning and night market sites to look into the needs of traders.
“The increase and decrease of spaces is also subject to the suitability of the site’s location,” he said.
