PORT KLANG, 20 June (Bernama): Twenty of the 27 illegal immigrants who were in a boat that capsized at Beacon Api Gila, in the waters off Sepang at 5am yesterday, have been rescued while seven others are still missing.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) director of operations in Klang, Lt Commander (Maritime) Mohd Hambali Yaakup said out of the 20 who were rescued, six were being treated at the Banting and Sungai Buloh Hospitals.
“No victim has drowned but seven are still missing,” he told reporters today, quoted from Bernama.
He said based on initial information, the boat which was ferrying 27 people had departed from Morib, Banting about 3am and headed for Tanjung Balai, Indonesia when it capsized.
The incident occurred barely 24 hours after another boat ferrying 97 Indonesian immigrants capsized in the waters off Sungai Air Hitam, Carey Island yesterday.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Herman Prayitno said the families of victims who died in the incident have been notified.
Herman also urged all Indonesians living in Malaysia to avoid using illegal modes of transport to return home.
