Sultan of Selangor: Royal Family Need Not Be Politically Involved

SHAH ALAM, 18 Feb: DYMM the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, ordered all of the Selangor Royal Family to not intervene, participate or allow any party to use their position for the interests of political parties in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election.

The Confidential Secretary to DYMM the Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Muhamad Munir Bani, in a press statement said that the Sultan hopes that all political parties and members will not link the Palace in the Kajang DUN by-election.

Datuk Munir said that this decree is issued to prevent any negative perception from the public of the palace’s involvement in political arena which must not happen and be avoided

“Our position remains that the royalty is an independent institution with no afiliation to any political party and operated based on the jurisdiction provided by the Selangor Government Laws 1959 and other related laws,” he said.
