Selangor Government Proposes to Establish an Independent Action Committee

SHAH ALAM, 19 Nov: The State Government proposes to set up an Independent Action Committee consisting of professionals in various fields in effort to cultivate a superior culture of fiscal and monetary management in Selangor.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the establishment of the committee is intended to avoid any conflict of interests in the state administration.

He said that the committee members appointed will be given power and privileges with specific goals.

“Among the goals is to study the cost of procurement, supplies and services, and to find a mechanism to control unnecessary and overlapping spending.

“In addition, the establishment also aims to solve bureaucratic red tape and various other matters regarding costs and expenses,” he said when tabling the Selangor Budget 2014 at the State Assembly today.

Abdul Khalid also proposed the concept participatory budgeting to be intensified by focusing specifically on the recommendation for allocation of public funds and how it is spent.

“This in turn will provide an opportunity for the people to identify spending priorities and together refine the proposed expenditure which would benefit the people and the state,” he said.
