SHAH ALAM, JUL 18: The laziness and irresponsibility of certain individuals will increase the risk of contracting dengue fever among the residents of Bandar Baru Kundang Apartments.

Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi said that this attitude would turn the residential area into a dengue hotspot.

She said that the Selayang Municipal Council has already issued notices to the owners of 243 empty units at the Bandar Baru Kundang Apartments to clean their premises.

However, the residents did not respond well to the notices.

“Bandar Baru Kundang Apartment Block 7 has 548 units. From that total, 243 units are unoccupied and have issues.

“On top of that, some residents are foreigners. Checks revealed that unoccupied units have been broken into by inconsiderate individuals and turned into garbage dump sites.

“An assortment of waste can be found like construction waste, furniture, clothing as well as domestic refuse,” she said during a visit to a dengue hotspot in Gombak district.

Daroyah said that after a series of gotong-royong, 67.1% or 163 units were cleaned from the total of 243 units.

“It would not be impossible for this situation to reoccur,” she said.
