SHAH ALAM, AUG 23: Phase 1 for works on installation of a main water-treatment pipe from Sungai Besi Highway to Bukit Dengkil Water Storage will begin in the near future.
Local Government, Legalising Illegal Factories and New Village Development Exco Ean Yong Hian Wah said the pipe installation is a part of the Air Langat Plant Treatment Project 2 to provide sufficient water supply to the Klang Valley area.
He said works consists of the pipe being installed through the Seri Kembangan area involving Perindustrian Bukit Serdang PBS 14/1, PBS 14/5, PBS 14/7 and Jalan Kasturi areas that will then be connected to Bandar Kinrara.
“Contractors involved will begin phase 1 of the project soon, covering a distance of nearly 3.5 kilometres.
“The pipe will be installed from PBS 14/1 to Jalan Kasturi in Seksyen 9 and Seksyen 10. It will also involve excavation work at the roadside and under the roads.
“What we are concerned about is the possibility of affecting traffic flow along Jalan PBS 14/1 to Jalan Kasturi, as there is only one main route for entrance and exit to Bukit Serdang,” he said during a site visit.
Ean Yong said the contractor responsible for the installation is urged to take good care of traffic management and control during project implementation.
He added that the contractor should also be required to have an effective traffic-control system when the project begins, as the areas involved will be seriously congested during peak hours.
“After raising a few of these important issues, the contractor would need to give feedback and propose a plan to MPSJ to be examined again. I hope they will be able to manage and control traffic at the areas involved so that traffic will not be affected,” he said.
Meanwhile, Serdang Parliament Member Dr Ong Kian Ming hopes the contractor will not close any road in the daytime as traffic congestion is already severe.
Additionally, the contractor is also urged to do work at night as promised.
“I call for MPSJ to place conditions like these so that the project implementation will not disturb traffic and the residents.
“It is expected to begin early this September and the contractor has informed that phase 1 will likely take up to six months,” he said.
