DAP to review if petition will be filed for the Teluk Intan by-election

SHAH ALAM, 3 June: The DAP campaign team for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election will review whether to file a petition against the results of the by-election, which is said to be disorderly, before making any decisions.

The former Teluk Intan candidate, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, said that the team will carry out a detailed study whether there was any element of fraud in the by-election, which will be headed by the DAP Publicity Chief, Tony Pua.

“The Teluk Intan by-election campaign team, led by Tony Pua, will check these things before deciding whether to file a petition or not. The study conducted will include all aspects, including whether it is true that there was error or fraud,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

She said that the team will take into consideration the interests of the people of Teluk Intan, who want their elected representative to be elected legally and fairly in the study.

The results of the Teluk Intan by-election involves a two-cornered clash between Dyana and Datuk Mah Siew Keong, from Barisan Nasional (BN), have recently been disputed by some when the number of votes in the official results announced by the Election Commission (EC) was said to exceed the total number of voters who voted.

According to statistics issued by the EC, BN obtained 20,157 votes; DAP, 19,919 votes; 543 spoiled ballots and 49 ballots were not put into the ballot box by the voters, bringing the total to 40,668 ballots issued.

However, the EC said that the total number of those who voted, including early voters, was only 40,242 who cast their ballots in the by-election; 426 votes less.

In the Teluk Intan by-election, which took place on 31 May, BN captured the DAP seat with a slim majority of 238 votes only.
