“Each family will receive Zakat assistance between RM550 to RM1,000, depending on the number of dependents.

“The assistance is distributed through 18 mosques in the state, staring June 19, for those in need to make preparations,” said Mohamad Adzib at the Sultan of Selangor’s buka puasa (breaking fast) feast with the people at the Selangor state mosque yesterday.

Mohamad Adzib added that LZS has set the rate for the Zakat al-Fitr to remain at RM7, the same as the previous year.

He said that to facilitate the Muslim community to pay the Zakat al-Fitr, apart from directly to 25 LZS counters, LZS have also appointed 2,477 al-Fitr heads and assistants at mosques and selected supermarkets.

The public can also make their Zakat al-Fitr payment through the short messaging system (SMS) with cooperation from the Celcom and Digi telecommunication companies.

Mohamad Adzib also briefly touched on the services of the Selangor State Mosque Imam Besar (chief priest), the late Ahmad Mustafa Saidin, who passed away on June 9.

“When he was alive, he contributed energy and mind for the success of Islamic-related activities for all groups; the old, young, teenagers and children.

“To a point that the State Mosque was known as a major learning centre for the state of Selangor,” he added.
