SHAH ALAM, 3 Sept: The State Government has called on all parties to collectively combat dengue cases that are on the rise.
The acting Exco in charge of Health, Dr Halimah Ali, said that dengue is expected to be more serious and alarming in October, November and December.
She said that this is because of heavy rain that contributes to the breeding of mosquito.
“This is based on the situation before where in October and so on, dengue will spread more seriously.
“So we are running awareness campaigns with the Selangor State Health Department, the local authorities and for everyone to act in a collective manner,” she said during a press conference after the Exco meeting today.
In relation to that, Halimah said that a committee will be set up, involving various agencies, for the success of the campaign, including local authorities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools, residents’ associations and so on.
“We are focusing on the target group, the youth, which we believe can become the change agent to shape our society in relation to hygiene.
“The second group is women in ensuring how family members are not exposed to dengue.
“The third group are primary school students, totalling one million, so that they can bring a positive habit in preventing dengue,” she added.
In other developments, Halimah informed that there are 840 dengue cases and 52 deaths due to dengue reported in the 35th epid week, bringing the total to 34,404 cases since the beginning of the year.
