SHAH ALAM, SEP 8: Selangor senior citizens aged 60 years and above are encouraged to register or the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) for financial assistance of RM2,500 to be channeled to their next-of-kin to reduce burial cost.

Kuala Kubu Baru Assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong said if they have past the age limit but have not registered, it will be a problem to claim the RM1,000 cash advance.

“When they die, their beneficiaries can claim the RM2,500 from the State Legislative Assembly Service Centre which will be paid in stages.

“In the first phase, the beneficiary will be paid RM1,000 and the balance will be paid in the second phase,” he said as reported by Sinar Harian.

According to him, the money can be used to pay for funeral and burial cost as well as paying off the decease’s debts.

SMUE is one of the programme in the Inisatif Peduli Rakyat (IPR) introduced by the Selangor Government since 2008.

Until March 31, 2017 the State Government has paid RM201,088 million to registered beneficiaries.
