MPSJ: Continuous monitoring to avoid flooding

SHAH ALAM, 3 Feb: Continuous monitoring at areas that natural disasters may potentially happen is being conducted by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) to prevent flooding.

The MPSJ Corporate Communications Officer, Muhammad Azli Miswan, said that slope monitoring is being carried out at all times, not only during the rainy season, and studies are being conducted to find the cause of the occurrence of an event.

“However, during the rainy season, emphasis and monitoring are more towards slopes that are of risk. MPSJ is always on standby 24 hours in facing landslides and natural disasters during the rainy season.

“Maintenance contractors are also directed to prepare adequate equipment to carry out temporary erosion control works if there is a landslide,” he told Selangor Kini.

Muhammad Azli said that periodic maintenance for the cleaning of drains, ditches and culverts will be done to ensure that there are no damages or blockage that may contribute to the occurrence of flash floods.

“It is being carried out by appointed contractors with complete monitoring by responsible officers and the Residents’ Committee (JKP) appointed,” he said.

He said that MPSJ is concerned about natural disasters that are often associated with environmental destruction and carelessness, and negligence by responsible parties to protect it.

“Stronger enforcement actions will be taken against those who contribute to its destruction according to the provisions of existing law.

“For example, actions that are always being taken are compounds and demolition of premises or structures build without permission,” he said.
