Calamondin Increases Income

SHAH ALAM, 2 Jan: A total of 28 original settlers of Bukit Bandaraya Shah Alam received a contribution of five Calamondin (Limau Kasturi) trees per person to be planted in the compounds of their respective houses.

The ceremony to hand over this contribution was carried out by Agricultural Modernisation, Natural Resources Management and Entrepreneur Development Exco, Dr Yaacob Sapari at Dewan Bukit Bandaraya, Section U11, Shah Alam.

Dr Yaakob, in his address said that this programme aims to boost the income of the residents by the production and sale of Calamondin for a period of 10 to 15 years.

He added that the State Government is committed in efforts to help the people of this state to increase their income through agricultural methods.

“Hopefully by giving these Calamondin trees, it can be beneficial and will be cared for well so that it can provide yields for every resident here,” said the Kota Anggerik Assemblyman.

Also present was the Acting Director of the Selangor Agricultural Department, Mohd Idros Hamid as well as residents of Bukit Bandaraya.

Meanwhile, the Tok Batin (village chief/shaman) of the area, Kama Bapak, 51, represented the residents in expressing gratitude for the contribution of the trees given.

At the same event, an information session was held regarding the proper way to plant the trees by Emi Faizal Borhan, Officer at the Gombak/Petaling Agricultural Centre and a presentation of school bags to children of original inhabitants of Bukit Bandaraya in preparation for the 2013 school session.
