SHAH ALAM, 12 Apr: Selangor managed to seize the top position of the Super League for the first time this season after their fourth consecutive win against the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) 3-1 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last night.

Before the game, Selangor was in third place with 11 points, one point behind the leader, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), and was tied with the second place team, Perak.

But after the seventh match ended, Selangor shared 14 points with FELDA United which defeated PDRM 3-2 in Selayang. Terengganu beat Perak 3-2 in Ipoh but Selangor managed to be on the top of the league based on an advantage of goal difference.

In Paroi, Selangor, led by Mehmet Durakovic, managed to lead in the eight minute with a neat finish by Afiq Azmi who received a good path from Andik Vermansah.

ATM, under the guidance of B Sathianathan, which was in second place in the league however managed to equalise the position in the 25th minute through a free kick from Mario Karlovic by misleading the Selangor goalkeeper, Syamim Othman.

Selangor then had to make an early exchange during the break by entering the former captain from last season, Bunyamin Umar, replacing import player, Robert Cornthwaite, who faced injuries, taken from the Selangor FAS website.

Selangor’s second goal was produced again by Afiq who twisted his body before unleashing a shot in front of the ATM goal after receiving a pass from Guilherme De Paula at the 51st minute.

The three points by Selangor was confirmed by a penalty shot from Leandro dos Santos as he scored the third goal at the 71st minute after the ATM goalkeeper, Razi Effendi Suhit, knocked down Andik.

After this, Selangor will wait for the Singapore representative, Lions XII, in the eight match at the Shah Alam Stadium this Saturday and will then leave for Kota Bharu to meet Kelantan on April 25.
