Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi 112th Free WiFi Location In Selangor

SEPANG, 14 FEB: The residents in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang can now gain access to free broadband internet access (WiFi) after Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim launched it today.

The Selangorku WiFI was installed at the Taman Seroja Hawker Centre in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi and it is the 112th WiFi location of its kind throughout Selangor.

Abdul Khalid said that the Selangorku Widi uses provisions from the Selangorku Grant of RM2.74 million, in collaboration with private companies through the open tenders.

“Various programs have been given allocation through the Selangorku Grant such as road infrastructural projects, futsal courts as well as providing free WiFi (service) so that all the people from Selangor can enjoy the convenience of information technology,” he said in his speech at the launching ceremony here today.

Also present at the event was the President of PKR, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Welfare, Women’s Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation Exco, Rodziah Ismail, Information Technology (ICT) Secretary of the State Secretariat Office (SUK), Wahilman Siwar.

Abdul Khalid said that starting from the end of March, all areas that have been identified as Selangorku WiFi Hotspots will be installed be installed with the service.

“Rural areas will be the focus of this WiFi installation which will be also used to disseminate information to the people, so that they information pertaining to the State Government can be available through the TVSelangor (Selangorku Media) portal,” he said in a press conference shortly after the

Meanwhile, the 2 Megahertz (MHz) speed Selangorku WiFI has a minimum coverage which can cover an area of 200 metres and limits access for 30 minutes for every 100 people at a given time.

In the meantime, Rodziah said that the WiFi service is to ensure that the digital divide between urban and rural communities can be reduced.

“The people are increasing and the population density will impact the State Government to think of something that would benefit all residents of this state thus, this WiFi service is one of them,” she said.

Many people in the said area reacted positively towards the Selangorku WiFi in their area.

Resident, Muhardi Yahya,29, said that with the WiFi installation, it would at least be able to provide the service to the residents to surf the internet for information or to complete a certain transaction.

“It is good that there is now free internet. Not everyone can afford to install internet (services) in their house and at least the people in this area are given a useful facility which can be used by all,” he said when met.
