Najib Should Start A “Caretaker” Federal Government

PETALING JAYA, 19 Mar: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should make the current federal government as “caretaker government” or a government that rules temporarily, said Batu Member of Parliament, Tian Chua.

Tian Chua said that this is because the mandate of the existing federal administrative has already ended on 8 March, exactly five years after the 12th General Elections.

A “caretaker government”, he said, cannot formulate policies or have any financial entitlements of a government, but can continue working as a government machine as usual.

Tian Chua said that it is a demand of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) from the Umno-BN government as a result of the 13th General Election International Conference organised by the Office of the Opposition Leader on 4th and 5th March.

“A “caretaker government” allows Najib to administer but does not allow him to set new policies and spending to gain votes”.

“If the government continues to talk about transformation and wants to make Malaysia one of the best countries that practices democracy, we want to see commitment in relation to this demand”.

“It does not have any meaning if they talk about transformation but do not practice it as a process to select the government in the elections,” he said.

He said the other demands made by PR is a campaign period of 21 days for the elections and fair media coverage for all parties in the elections.

He said that the civil servants have also been asked to practice neutrality in the elections and to ask the Election Commission (EC) to carry out their duties in a transparent and professional manner.

Tian Chua explained that a copy of the programme has been submitted to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamed Aziz on March 14.
