Alinah, First Woman to be Appointed PJ Mayor in Malaysia

SHAH ALAM, 19 Dec: The appointment of Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad as the new Mayor of Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) makes her the first female Mayor in Malaysia.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in a press conference after he finished attending the Exco meeting here at the State Secretariat Building this afternoon.

“I believe her extensive experience in all areas of administration, at the state and federal level, will help her be an effective mayor.

“Hopefully the new mayor can understand the State Government’s desire to make Petaling Jaya the people’s choice city to settle down in and run businesses,” he explained.

Today is the last day that Alinah holds tenure as the Executive Director of the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) and she is expected to start her term as MBPJ Mayor on January 1, 2013.

She previously served as Deputy Director at the Selangor Land and Mines Office, Kuala Langat Head assistant district officer (ADO), Petaling District Office Enforcement ADO, State Financial Secretariat (SUK) Head Assistant and Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) Secretary Head Assistant, Prime Minister’s Department.

In the meantime, Abdul Khalid also announced the establishment of a Hearing Committee regarding the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) assessment tax increase which is expected to begin public information sessions in January, 2013.

The committee will be chaired by New Village Development and Illegal Factory Solutions Exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah and will be teamed by the Shah Alam Deputy Mayor, Mohtar Hani, State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) representative and representatives from the Selangor State Treasury.

Earlier, the mayor of MBSA, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan was present to produce the process and procedures of the increase in assessment tax at the Exco Meeting which was chaired by the Chief Minister.
