Batang Sadong PKR Election Results Cancelled, Element of Fraud Confirmed

SHAH ALAM, 2 May: The results of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election in Batang Sadong, Sarawak, last week have been cancelled as an element of fraud exists in its polling process.

The PKR Central Election Committee (JPP) Chairman, Datuk Johari Abdul, said that the move was taken due to doubts that there was fraud in the polling process.

He said among the doubts that arose was that the number of ballots was not the same as the number of members who voted, in addition to the writing pattern on some ballots seem to have been written by the same person.

“So, we have decided to cancel the results in Batang Sadong,” he said in a press conference here at the PKR Headquarters.

He said that election monitors involved on the polling day have also been suspended.

Johari said that the JPP has also suggested to the Discipline Committee for a number of branch leaders who won unopposed to be sacked from the party.

Prior to this, there were allegations of fraud during the election process in several branches in Sarawak involving the PKR Deputy President, Azmin Ali.

The founder of Malaysian Youth Solidarity (SAMM), Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also urged for Azmin to be disqualified from contesting for the position of the PKR Deputy President due to the alleged fraud.

Better known as Chegu Bard, he said that based on the report made by the Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s team, JPP needs to act decisively against Azmin.
