State Government Retains Historical Quarters in Kuala Kubu Bharu

SHAH ALAM, 2 May: The old quarters, with its own value, will be maintained in line with the status of Kuala Kubu Bharu as a heritage city.

The Assemblywoman for Kuala Kubu Bharu, Lee Kee Hiong, said that she is working to bring this matter to the attention of the State Government.

She said that the State Government has informed that they will strive to maintain the quarters to retain it in good condition at the District Action Council Meeting on April 30.

“At the meeting, the Selangor District and Land Office (SDLO) explained that the quarters will not be demolished because they too appreciate its heritage value and the district officer suggested for it to be made a heritage place. Thus, the positive answer is very satisfactory and will jointly be worked on.

“Although the cost of beautifying the area is higher than a new construction, but because it has historical value, we cannot just look at cost alone,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

Previously, Kee Hiong said that she had raised the matter at the Selangor Council session last November; however the State Government wanted to demolish the dilapidated and abandoned living quarters.

“However, in an answer at the council session, the demolition was yet to be implemented because the site is still in the process of gazetting,” she said.

It is understood that 20 district office quarters, the Department of Public Works and clinics over the age of 30 are out of date in that area.

The suggestion to retain the old quarters was also supported by the Chairman of the Kuala Kubu Historical Society (Peskubu), Abdul Wahab Abdul Hamid, who also aspired to turn the quarters into a classic home.

Among the features to be highlighted is a concept with classic features in terms of interior decoration and furniture.
