Sultan Sharafuddin consented to Abdul Khalid remaining as Chief Minister

SHAH ALAM, 11 Aug: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented to Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim continuing his duties as Chief Minister.

Abdul Khalid said that he has already informed the latest situation after his dismissal from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in a meeting this morning.

He said that Sultan Sharafuddin consented to him continuing his duties as the Chief Minister after Abdul Khalid explained that he still commands the trust of the majority of the State Assemblymen.

“As stipulated under Article 53 (2)(b) of the Selangor State Enactment, the state Exco meeting could go on with a minimum of only four to ten Executive Councillors.

“PAS had already pledged that their four Exco Members will support the State Government and me.

“Therefore, I can continue to lead the State Government Council,” he said during a press conference at the State Operations Room at the State Secretary’s Building (SUK) today.

This morning, Abdul Khalid faced Sultan Sharafuddin in a meeting with the Selangor Royal Advisory Council at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.

The meeting was to discuss his position as Chief Minister after PKR sacked him, effective immediately, on August 9.

Abdul Khalid said that he recognises and accepts PKR’s decision despite the move being wrong and not in accordance with the law, and contrary to the party’s constitution.

In other developments, Abdul Khalid said that he will meet with Executive Council members from PKR and DAP to discuss their position in the State Executive Council (MMKN).

“I will be asking for their willingness to cooperate in administering the MMKN and in administering Selangor.

“If it is their conscience to not be in ‘Team MB’, then I feel it is best for them to not continue,” he said.
