SHAH ALAM, 15 July: The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has been asked to no longer play tug-of-war in fulfilling their promise to set-up a clinic for the local community’s needs.
The Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Entrepreneur Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the MOH should accelerate the construction of the Sungai Lui Rural Clinic at Mukim Hulu Langat which has been delayed for three years.
She said that MOH’s attitude of being easy on the appointed contracter has resulted in many problems arising that ultimately burden the people of Selangor.
“The Ministry of Health targets for the rural clinic to be upgraded to the Type 1 2G and that it was able to be completed in one year, in August 2012, but until now, only 19 percent has been built.
“It is understood that during the period, the contractor appointed other sub-contractors four times, but failed. It has been three months since the construction has been continued after being abandoned for a long time and is scheduled to be completed in January 2015.
Yesterday, Darouah had the opportunity to visit the Sungai Lui Rural Clinic construction site and according to the plan, the clinic was to be temporarily housed at the Kampung Baru Sungai Lui Branch 4B Youth Operation Room, but until today, it is still operating at the same location.
Earlier, Daroyah also visited the Batu 9 Health Cinic in Cheras following complaints from the public who said that the clinic was small and crowded, in addition to the limited parking space.
“To reduce the problem, a plan has been designed to build a new health clinic at Bandar Tun Hussein Onn.
“The ministry has been urged to accelerate all processes to make the people a priority, in-line with the ‘People First’ slogan.
The clinic, which has been in operation since 1969, provides services to about 250,000 residents in the surrounding area at an average of 500 to 800 patients per day.
