Public Transport Master Plan ready in November 2015

SHAH ALAM, 18 Aug: The draft of the state Public Transport Master Plan is expected to be completed early this November through a qualified team of consultants appointed.

The Exco for Investment, Industry, Trade and Transport, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, said that the plan is to help Selangor achieve the objective of making the state public transport friendly, safe and comprehensive.

He said that this is in line with the Selangor People Centred Economy development that determined the transport direction in the state.

“It helps achieve the target of 60:40 ratio of public transport over private transport, has a short-term, medium and long term strategy to increase the use of public transport.

“The plan also includes the network of highways and current and public transport for the reference of the state government, Federal government, agencies involved and local authorities to ensure smooth coordination and implementation,” he said.

He said this when replying an oral question from Shahrum Mohd Sharid (BN-Dengkil) at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) today.

At the same time, Chang Khim (DAP-Sungai Pining) said that the plan would help achieve a balance between the construction of highways and public transport systems through a transparent and detailed study.

He said that they will also analyse the concept of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) to enable housing and commercial development in the Klang Valley to be integrated with the public transport infrastructure.

“The state government is also willing to cooperate with the Federal government to discuss this matter through the Urban and Rural Planning Department and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD),” he said.
