SHAH ALAM, 10 June: Failing to have an effective planning is seen as among the main causes of divorce, especially among young couples.
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) Director, Datuk Haris Kasim, said that in relation to this, couples are advised to practice prudent financial management to avoid them from being burdened.
“In JAIS statistics, among the causes of divorce or upheaval is economics. Many complain that husbands fail or are unable to perform maintenance.
“It always happens among young couples who adopt a luxury lifestyle,” he said after the launch of the Selangor Family, Social and Community Development Seminar 2015 today.
He said that another problem is ideology and belief, but it is still small compared to economy.
“We also advised couples who want to marry to avoid using the services of loan sharks. Loans from loan sharks are a burden,” he said.
He said among the measures taken by JAIS to overcome the problems of newlyweds who are unable to organise wedding ceremonies is to hold it in masses.
He said that these events were successful like the Destinasi Cinta programme organised by the Petaling District Islamic Religious Office recently.
“I asked the JAIS Family Legal Division (UUK) to give serious attention, especially to newlyweds.
“UUK has also been asked to implement a new syllabus in the marriage course to help create happy families,” he said.
