Sultan: People urged to preserve the sanctity of Islam

SEPANG, 16 July: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, asked everyone to protect the sanctity of Islam so that it is preserved.

He said that religious extremism, liberalisation and pluralism should be stopped and prevented from continuing to be widespread in the state.

Therefore, the Sultan said, the people are urged to practice ‘moderate’ Islam based on the belief of members of Sunnah wal Jamaah.

“In the meantime, he was disappointed that there are some politicians and pundits who do not protect the sanctity of Muslims from being fooled.

“Do not make the mosque a political arena and a place to hold negative demonstrations, whether in the mosque or its compound,” said the Sultan.

He said this in his speech at the inauguration of the Pekan Sepang Mosque yesterday evening at an Iftar feast with the people and the Nuzul Quran celebration.

Also present was the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, accompanied by the Chief Minister, Tan Sir ABdul Khalid Ibrahim, and the Selangor Islamic Religious COuncil (MAIS) Chairman, Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa.

At the same event, the Sultan of Selangor also consented to present Hari Raya donations to 345 poor and needy people, 150 converts and 130 orphans.

The Pekan Sepang Mosque was first built in 1999 and funded by Tan Sri Rashid Hussain (RHB Bank), however it stopped temporarily and construction continued in 2005 by the Public Works Department.

The mosque, which cost over RM5 million, was successfully completed and first used in 2007.
