DNS creates history, passes opposition’s motion

SHAH ALAM, 18 June: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) has again created history when, for the first time, a motion brought up by the opposition was passed in this time’s session.

The motion urged the Selangor Government, through local authorities, to investigate and stop any development projects implemented without planning permission.

The motion was put forward by the Assemblyman for Jeram, Amiruddin Setro (BN), and was supported by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Assemblymen.

The DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, described this latest development as a sign of maturity among Selangor Assemblymen who supported the motion as it has a positive impact on the people.

“They demonstrated maturity in discussing the people’s issues, crossing political lines.

“This clearly shows that my decision to allow the motion put forward by the opposition to be debated was right,” said Hannah during a press conference at the last day of the DNS session today.

Apart from the DNS allowing a motion put forward by the opposition to be debated, it is also the only Assembly at the state level, or even the federal level, that passes motions from different sides.

Typically, Pakatan Rakyat is not given a chance to put forward any motion in states and parliament controlled by BN.

In this time’s session, the Selangor opposition put forward two motions.

However, another motion put forward by the Assemblyman of Sungai Panjang, Budiman Mohd Zohdi, was rejected.
