CM: Charity programmes promote Selangor to tourists

SHAH ALAM, 15 May: The State Government always welcomes the organisation of charity programmes in Selangor and is always ready to provide support and assistance for its success.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the organisation of charity programmes like the Malaysian Women Marathon (MWM) 2014 will create more welfare activities, thus benefiting the people.

He said that activities being carried out also indirectly promote Selangor to tourists from within and outside the country.

“This marathon is also being held to raise funds to be distributed to a number of selected charity organisations.

“It is hoped that the funds channelled will be used wisely and prudently,” he said.

He said this at the presentation ceremony of a mock check to charity organisations in conjunction with the MWM Charity Event 2014.

Also present was the General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din; the Director of MWM, Karen Low and state Executive Councillors Datuk Teng Chang Khim, S.Ganabatirao, Dr Halimah Ali and Dr Daroyah Alwi.

The MWM programme was held on 16 March with over 3,000 participants, including people with disabilities (PWD) at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.

The marathon participants however were not allowed to finish the run due to the thick haze, causing there to me no winner of the event.

In relation to that, the cash prize worth RM18,000 guaranteed to the winner was given to charity homes at today’s event.

Among the charities that received donations are the Semarak Kasih Sayang Single Mother’s Association, Kota Damansara Single Mothers, the Darul Nadwah Selangor Association, Friends of the Blind and All Women’s Action Society of Malaysia.
