SELANGOR

Every inch of Selangor can be the location to spreading knowledge widely

SHAH ALAM, 3 June: Selangor is capable of becoming a precursor and catalyst for ‘Engaged Learning’ by using information communication technology (ICT), especially in the country’s university curriculum.

The former Chief Editor of the New Straits Times Press Group, Datuk A Kadir Jasin, said that the State Government, through the University of Selangor (UNISEL), only needs to play a part in implementing the appropriate measures to realise the matter.

He said that UNISEL is capable of creating variations by using ICT to link higher education institutions with the people at the lowest end.

“But the technology available is not necessarily productive as it can be made ‘weapons that eat you’ when we do not teach how to use ICT facilities properly.

“So, this is the role to play. We do not want this just at the university level, but also to reach kindergartens; to right the wrong and strengthen what is right.

“We want every inch of Selangor to be a place of learning, to obtain and disseminate knowledge,” he said in a press conference today.

Earlier, he attended the opening ceremony of the International Conference for Engaged Learning for Communication and Information for Technological Development (CITD) which was inaugurated by the Executive Councillor of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali.

120 people from 23 countries participated in the conference organised by UNISEL, in collaboration with the Asian Institute for Development Communication Malaysia (Aidcom) and the United Nationa (UN) through the United Nations Asia and Cornell University.

“If UNISEL is able to implement conclusions and findings from the conference held today, I think that this university could be a precursor. We only act as a facilitator, the others is up to UNISEL,” he said.
