SUBANG JAYA, 31 Mar: Another death confirmed to be due to dengue in the area of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has brought the total number of deaths due to the disease to four since early January.
The President of MPSJ, Datuk Asmawi Kasbi, said that three cases involve residents of flats, while the last victim was a resident of a terraced house in Bandar Kinrara 1/7.
Asmawi said that there are still six hot spots that have recorded the highest cases of the disease, including Taman Kinrara Section 3; Taman Puchong Utama 7; Pangsapuri Enggang Bandar Kinrara 6; SS15/5, Lestari Puchong 6 and Taman Pinggiran USJ 2.
Up to week 11, 2,178 cases have been reported with 1,829 confirmed to be positive.
In the meantime, Azmawi reminded residents who keep water in containers due to the water rationing to ensure that the container used is closed properly.
It is to prevent the container from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
“The hot weather and the implementation of the water rationing has caused many residents to store water in various types of containers. Containers should always be monitored for fear that it will be Aedes breeding grounds,” he said, quoted from Sinar Harian.
In the meantime, the Klang district has recorded a sharp increase in dengue cases from January to 26 March, with 2,186 cases, while throughout 2013, only 2,217 cases were reported.
The President of the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), Datuk Mohammad Yacob, said that the surge of cases for the first quarter is almost equal to throughout last year, with two deaths confirmed for the period.
“The number of dengue cases in Klang shows that the area is among the active localities for Aedes mosquitoes, so the people have to work together to curb the spread of the disease.
“MPK organised a new programme, the Cikgumu Cantik (Your Teacher is Beautiful) and the gist is for teachers and students to find larvae on the school grounds,” he said.
Mohammad explained that the initiative is to educate the public, starting from children, on the awareness of the dangers of Aedes and dengue which is a contributor of death.
Dengue cases in Selangor recorded an increase of up to 354 percent in the first two months of 2014, with 6,211 cases compared to 1,367 cases last year.
