CM Condemns Actions that Insult the Monarchy Institution, Urges to Defend It

KAJANG, 15 Feb: The people have been asked to uphold the monarchy institution practiced in this country for a long time, just as the practice of devotion to the Rukun Negara (National Principles) and the Federal Constitution.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the monarchy institution in this country should be preserved for the survival of the unique Malay traditional customs, so that it does not sink in time.

“Some say we do not need all of this, but let’s look at the royal family of Britain, led by Queen Elizabeth over the last 60 years.

“Recently, during her anniversary, people from around the world turned up to witness the traditions of the British people. This is what we need to do,” he said.

He said this soon after the Opening Ceremony of the Selangor Health Campaign at Dataren Cergas this morning.

Khalid strongly condemns any individual that criticises or makes public statements that insult the monarchy institution, especially in Selangor.

“Legal action should be taken on those who do these things. Things like this should not be allowed to happen in Selangor,” he said.

He said this when asked to comment on the arrest of a woman who allegedly made a derogatory public statement insulting DYMM the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Through Facebook, the 27-year old woman was charged of using inappropriate words which led to Sultan Sharafuddin ordering for a police report to be made.
